GLENELG, Md. (WMAR) - Howard County Police found fireworks and a hunting knife in student's vehicles during a routine search of Glenelg High School this morning.

Police conducted their routine K-9 scan that is normally done randomly about 6 times per year at all the Howard County Public Schools.

This morning officers found fireworks, tobacco, a beer, a hunting knife and shotgun shells. Police have been able to confirm that the beer, shotgun shells and hunting knife were all left in the vehicles by family members or parents of the students inadvertently.

Police say there was never any danger to the students at Glenelg.

None of the students involved have been charged criminally, but will face disciplinary action by the Howard County School Administration.

In a statement, Principal Karl Schindler says "I want to assure GHS students and parents that the administration, teacher, staff and Police Department remain committed to providing a drug, weapon and alcohol-free educational setting that supports the school systems' Goal 2 for establishing a 'Safe & Nurturing School Environment'."
