COLUMBIA, Md. - A 17-year-old Columbia teen was killed in a single car crash Thursday morning on Columbia Road, and three passengers were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma.

Howard County Police say Shaquan Jamal Curtis was driving south on Columbia Road near Tarkington Place at about 3 a.m. this morning when he lost control of the Audi A6 he was driving.

The Police Crash Investigation team says the car left the road and crashed into a tree.

The three people in the car with Curtis have been identified as 21-year-old Obafami Oyeniyi Ilupeju, 20-year-old Tres Quante Jones, and 20-year-old Dontrell Milner.

All three were taken by ambulance and Medivac to Shock Trauma in serious condition.

Police say preliminary investigation leads them to believe excessive speed was the primary cause of the crash, but they are also investigating the possibility that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Columbia Road was closed until 6:15 a.m. while the crash was investigated.
