BEL AIR, Md. - A Perryville man was killed Friday afternoon when he was thrown from his motorcycle trying to avoid a crash near Bel Air, state police said.
According to a preliminary police report, Monte Alonzo Greenhow, 49, was riding his motorcycle traveling eastbound on Route 22 near MD Route 543 about 2:18 p.m., when he was cut off by a 2010 Hyundai Elantra traveling in the opposite direction. The Hyundai, being driven by a 17-year-old male, was attempting to turn left into a Wawa, said police.
Greenhow attempted to take evasive action on his 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, but was unsuccessful and struck the right passenger side rear of the Hyundai and was ejected. He was subsequently transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
The operator and juvenile occupants of the Hyundai were not injured.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash. MD Route 22 remained closed for several hours while the scene was investigated.
