JOPPA, Md. -

Maryland State Police say a man helping to fix a flat tire on Route 152 in Joppa was killed when the car was hit by another vehicle.

It happened about 9:30 a.m. Monday. Troopers say the driver of the disable vehicle pulled 10 to 15 feet off the roadway and called 54-year-old John Scott of Abingdon for help. Scott arrived on the scene about the same time as 41-year-old Walter Feick of Aberdeen. Police say Feick is a vehicle recovery technician with the Maryland Transportation Authority police.

Authorities say while Scott and Feick were working on the disabled vehicle, a car traveling northbound on Route 152 lost control and skidded into it.

Troopers say Scott was pronounced deceased at the scene. Feick is in stable condition at Shock Trauma.
