ABINGDON, Md. - An elderly woman is in the hospital after a crash involving a school bus.

Officials said the car she was riding in crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 7 in Abington shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The car then struck a school bus.  The woman, Marguerite Gude, 86, had to be cut out of the car, and was flown to Shock Trauma where she is listed in serious but stable condition. The driver of the car, her son, Earl Gude, 60, was uninjured in the crash.

No students were on the school bus.  The driver of the bus, Terrese Diarisso, was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center with minor injuries.

Earl Gude told police that he had dozed off at the time of the crash.

The State's Attorney's Office will review the investigation to determine if any charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
