A detective with the Aberdeen Police Department has lost his battle with lymphoma.
Officials with the department say Detective Mark Franklin had been on leave since January.
Franklin reportedly passed away from non-Hodgkins lymphoma Thursday afternoon.
Franklin's loss is the second death of a Aberdeen police officer in recent weeks and one of a handful of recent law enforcement officer deaths in Harford County.
Before joining the Aberdeen Police Department, Franklin served two years with the Maryland Transportation Authority.
In a release issued Friday, Franklin was described as "a true professional and will be greatly missed."
He is survived by his wife and four children.
