Ocean City noise restriction could get stricter

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Noise restrictions in the resort town of Ocean City are on the verge of becoming stricter.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that the Ocean City Town Council is scheduled to vote Monday on an ordinance that would prohibit sound systems and other noise-producing devices from being audible beyond an area of 30 feet. It would also forbid storefront staff members from directing sound toward public beaches, the boardwalk and streets beyond 30 feet.

If the ordinance passes, Ocean City police patrolling the boardwalk would be in charge of enforcement. City Solicitor Guy Ayres says if the music or noise is not turned down after an initial citation and fine, the offender could be arrested.
