NORTHEAST, Md. - An estimated $10 million in damage was caused Thursday following a three-alarm fire at a Cecil County shopping center.
According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, nearly 100 fire and rescue representing personnel from Cecil and Harford counties along with crews from Delaware and Pennsylvania responded ti the Northeast Plaza Shopping Center in Northeast to battle the blaze, which began slightly after midnight and took 2 ½ hours to get under control.
State Fire Marshal officials said the fire originated inside the rear storage area of Frank’s Pizza before traveling through the roof area causing fire and smoke damage to the GameStop, Northeast Liquors, Cecil Bank, Images Salon and Little Ceasars. The Olympia Sports Clothing Store and Rite Aid received significant smoke damage during the incident. Two firefighters received minor injuries and were treated and released from Union Hospital.
The cause for the fire remains under investigation at this time.
