BALTIMORE (WMAR) - Southbound I-95 near the Tydings Memorial Bridge has reopened after being closed earlier on Tuesday.

Maryland State Police were working to clean up a crash that closed both north and southbound lanes of I-95 at the Tydings Bridge.

Police responded to the area at about 8:00 a.m. for reports of the crash. When they arrived, they found an overturned tractor trailer that had hit a passenger car.

Police say that there was some type of fuel spill involved and that they are working to contain it.

Jay Apperson with the Maryland Department of the Environment said that truck was a 9,000 gallon truck, but an estimated 4,000 gallons were spilled on land.  Crews are working to try to keep it out of the water.

The drivers of the truck and car suffered minor injuries.

Crash on I-795

In addition to that crash, police are also working to clean up a 6 vehicle crash on I-795 at Route 140. Police say that one of those cars overturned and that it will be several hours before the road is reopened.

The cause both crashes are still under investigation and motorists are encouraged to avoid both areas and find alternate routes.
