Palm-scanning technology in question

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Carroll County schools superintendent says he's receptive to privacy concerns voiced by some parents about new palm-scanning technology in place at some schools.
The district's in the process of installing the technology in school cafeterias. Officials hope to have the scanners available in all 43 schools within the next year and a half.
The machines, currently in 10 schools, pull up a student's account with a scan of the palm and allow students to get through the cafeteria line. But some parents say they're concerned about privacy, and say the school district should have received prior consent.
Superintendent Steve Guthrie tells the Carroll County Times that he plans to meet with staff and discuss some of the concerns, though he's not sure whether any changes will be made.
