WESTMINSTER, Md (WMAR) - A Westminster man was hit by a car and killed Friday evening while walking on the edge of a roadway.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a vehicle collision in the 900 block of Chapel Road around 3:25 p.m.

Once fire crews arrived on the scene, they found the 45-year-old victim, treated him on the scene, and transported him to the Carroll County Hospital Center where he later died.

A preliminary investigation by the Sheriff's office revealed that the man was hit from behind by a 21-year-old driver from Taneytown.

Officers do not know if charges will be brought against the driver.

The investigation also revealed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash

The identity of the victim is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
