CARROLL COUNTY, Md. - The Carroll County Board of Commissioners and their staff are working to correct an error made by BB&T bank, the county's bank.
At the close of business on January 5, the county deposited checks and cash payments made by property owners for water bill and/or property tax bills.
As usual the bank submitted the checks to the various banking institutes for payment. Unfortunately, due to an internal banking error, the band submitted the same checks for a second payment.
The error was quickly noticed and staff began working to correct the problem.
BB&T has assured the county that they will work to ensure the 230 affected accounts are not negatively impacted.
Those affected will most likely see an extra withdraw and a subsequent deposit on their next bank statement.
People with are asked to call the County Collections Office at 410-386-3971.
