This school year, seniors at Carroll County public schools can skip math.
The juniors won't be so lucky.
Starting next school year, all high school seniors will be required to take a math class. Education officials say this is because the University System of Maryland's requirements, which students must meet, have changed.
Margaret Pfaff, the director of curriculum, instruction and staff, says the University System made the change, in part, because students were taking a year off from math and ended up in remedial math classes in college.
Pfaff says it's best if students take one math class every year.
