MANCHESTER, Md. - A high school teacher is dead after police say his car slid on icy roads and crashed into a school bus.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says Devin Spence, 24, died Monday morning around 7 a.m. after his car crashed into a school bus and burst into flames.
According to deputies, Spence was driving along Sullivan Road near Route 27 when they believe he slid on ice and crossed the center line. His car spun, struck a bus, and caught fire. Spence died at the scene, none of the five children on the bus were hurt.
The bus was taking students to Delone Catholic High School in Pennsylvania at the time of the accident. Spence was on his way to Manchester Valley High School where he teaches math.
School officials have made extra counselors available to students.
