REISTERSTOWN, Md. (WMAR) -

A woman and a 6-year-old boy are recovering after they were hit by a car while crossing the street Wednesday evening.

Police say the woman, Juanita Mauricia Lewis, 35 and a 6-year-old boy, Jayden Noah Fulton, were crossing the 700 block of Main Street at about 4:30 p.m. when they were hit by a car in the turn lane.

The driver of the vehicle that hit them was identified as John Wayne Sloan, 78. He told police that he looked both ways before pulling out onto Main Street, and didn't see anyone.

Police say the pedestrians were not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident, and there were no pedestrian signals in the area. However, there is a crosswalk several feet from where the two crossed the street.

Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
