The state recognizes alcohol & drug addiction recovery month

CATONSVILLE, MARYLAND - Battling substance abuse is a challenge and it's even harder to do on your own.

Today the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene kicked off the 21st annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery month.

It's a chance for health officials to bring awareness to the depth of substance abuse and the steps that can be taken to recovery. In addition to the number of programs that the state offers to those battling with addiction.

According to the state -- 8% of Marylanders are dependant on, or abuse alcohol or illicit drugs.

One out of five of them are between the ages of 18 and 25.
