ROSEDALE, MD - A Rosedale man was killed Monday night after being hit a car while he was trying to walk across and exit ramp on Interstate 695, state police say.

The victim is identified as Alvarino D. Vigil, 41, of the 6500-block of Hazelwood Court.

At around 10 p.m. Vigil's car broke down along eastbound I-695 near I-95. Police believe he was trying to walk to his house, which is not far from there. As Vigil tried to cross the merge lane on I-695 from I-95 he was struck by a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by an 18-year-old woman.

Vigil was pronounded dead on the scene.

The drive of the Eclipse was taken to Franklin Square hospital for minor injuries. She has since been treated and released.

Police say they do not believe alcohol or speed were contributing factors in the crash and say pedestrian error was likely the cause.

An investigation is ongoing.
