OWINGS MILLS, Md. - So what were you doing when you were 16-years-old? For one Owings Mills teen the answer is all about duct tape.
Alec Cosgarea's creative side starts with an exacto knife.
The 16 year-old Mcdonogh High School student has turned a curiosity into a full-fledged on-line retail company, the items he sells are made of duct tape.
Yes Duct tape.
Alec got the idea in his 8th grade school year when starting on a jacket.
Cosagarea says "Our Art teacher gave us a choice for an end of the year art project and I decided to make a jacket since my best friends Bar Mitzvah was coming up, so I spent every other day for about an hour working on this jacket and I finished 20 minutes before the Bar Mitzvah."
Using his exacto knife for cutting and shaping, Alec has now expanded his line of fully-functional duct tape items.
Being an active competitive swimmer at the North Baltimore Aquatic Clu, the same club Michael Phelps and many other Olympians started at, Alec has decided to donate 5% of his annual revenue to Swim Across America , the annual fundraising event near Gibson Island.
Alec is also accepting orders and is looking to expand into selling retail in local boutiques and chain stores. For more information click here www.ducttapeoutfitters.com/
