TOWSON, Md. - Giving away free jewelry sounds too good to be true, but that's exactly what one generous jewelry store in Towson is doing for the holidays.
The gift is indeed yours at Nelson Coleman Jewelers, that is, if you can find it.
"No strings attached, finders keepers, the jewelry is real the gift is yours," says Chris Coleman, Co-Owner Nelson Coleman Jeweler.
The small family owned jewelry store has been playing Secret Santa for the past 3 years.
"A different employee each day is hiding a wrapped package of genuine jewelry all around the Baltimore metro area," says Coleman.
The beautifully wrapped boxes include a letter and a tag that says "finders keepers", inside the boxes you'll find one of two distinct pieces of jewelry, either a sterling silver and diamond key to my heart pendent or fresh water pearls.
So there are 24 boxes that have been around town since December 1, and still have 4 more packages to put out.
The catch? Only half of them have been claimed.
The packages were left at bus stops, playgrounds on the shelf in a grocery store and emergency rooms in a hospital construction site.
In fact, there is one being strategically placed today.
Here's a hint.
Sales Associate at Nelson Coleman Jewelers, Susie Vernick says "I'm going to place it at one of the metro stations in the area."
So why do they do it? Well it's simple, "we felt like Santa Claus needed a little help."
