Friends remember "Ms. Beulah," who was hit by a car and killed in a McDonald's parking lot

BALTIMORE COUNTY -  

Her voice used to light up Mt. Sinai Baptist Church from a piano.

"Ms. Beulah had a beautiful soprano voice," said Deborah Taylor, a church member.    

On Tuesday nights and Sunday mornings, Ms. Beulah Mills brought her musical talent to the sanctuary, where church members called her a friend.  She knew the old hymns.

"Amazing Grace, whatever you asked," said Kelly Jenkins, a church member.    

Now they are words to hold on to following the details of her death.  Baltimore County Police say Ms. Beulah was pinned under a vehicle near the entrance of the McDonald's drive thru in Loch Raven Plaza.

She was going to meet a friend at the restaurant and was crossing from the Rite-Aid when she was hit.  In her East Baltimore community, Cassandra McKnight says "Ms. Beulah" was a great neighbor.

"I think she treated people the way she wanted to be treated, and she cared about people genuinely.  She touched a lot of people.  She gave things to people," said McKnight.   

Police say the driver did the right thing and helped investigators.  But there's a huge hole in the hearts of many people who loved Ms. Beulah.

"You're missing the warmth of her spirit.  You're missing the way she filled this sanctuary, even that she was small in stature but big in spirit," said Jenkins.     

Friends say Ms. Beulah was often in the Loch Raven area to help an ailing sister.  Police are trying to figure out if charges will be filed against the driver who hit her.
