PIKESVILLE, Md. - One of Baltimore's finest teachers received recognition for his hard work and efforts Saturday.
At the 2011 Milken Educator Forum: Milken Educators as Ambassadors for Excellence, McKinley Broome, a fourth grade teacher at Woodholme Elementary School , was honored with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award during and inspiring event hailed as the "Oscars of Teaching" by "Teaching Magazine".
The event was held at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, California, and is one of America's premier educator events.
The Forum joins award-winning teachers and principles with education leaders to share successful strategies for strengthening the K - 12 school system.
The Milken Educator Award was first presented in 1987, and represents the nation's largest teacher recognition program, having bestowed 2,500 outstanding educators with more than $62 million in unrestricted cash awards.
