TOWSON, Md. - It's official, Superintendent Dr. Joe Hairston is leaving the Baltimore County Public School system.

At tonight's Board of Education meeting, Dr. Hairston announced that will not be seeking an extension to his current contract which ends on June 30, 2012.

The Board President didn't waste any time, and also announced that they have started a national search and formed a committee to help find a new superintendent to take Hairston's place next year.

Dr. Hairston didn't give a reason for his leaving, but said that he will speak more about the situation on Friday.
