Couple hurt in Essex house fire

ESSEX, Md. (WMAR) - A man and woman are recovering after being hurt when a fire broke out in their home.

Firefighters responded to the 1700 block of Middleborough Road just before 2:00 p.m. for reports of a fire with people trapped.

Crews arrived within 5 minutes of the call to find smoke showing from the second floor of a home and no one inside.

A 47-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were both taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview with minor injuries.

Officials say the fire was called under control within 20 minutes of the initial call for service. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
