County installs WiFi in court building

Baltimore County Officials have announced that a recent technology solution is now improving prosecutors' ability to try cases by proving instant remote access to case files during trials. 

 

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger announced the new solution to provide access to files and internet connectivity during trials in Circuit Court.  

 

At the request of the State's Attorney, the County's Office of Information Technology installed 16 wireless access points in the Courts Building, some in the courtrooms. 

 

Nearly half the cost of this $25,000 project was covered with money generated from assets seized from criminals, with the remainder funded by the County Government. Forfeiture funds were also used to purchase $71,000 worth of laptops, computer equipment and software to support this imitative. 

 

The new WiFi in the courtroom allows prosecutors to remotely access a wide range of time-sensitive data related to probation violations, failure to appear violations, bench warrant hearings, sentence modifications, research case law, look up criminal histories and stay in touch with their offices. 

 

"Every opportunity to save time and money in doing our job is welcomed so that we can better devote our resources to doing justice," said Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger. "This step accomplishes exactly that."
