OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Northbound 795 was shut down for some time Monday afternoon due to a three car accident that killed one person.

Maryland State Police said that around 1:45 Monday three cars were involved in a crash on 795 North between Franklin Boulevard and Owings Mills Boulevard.

The investigation revealed that the operator, Vincent Thomas Dipaula, 55, of a Ford Econoline van failed to reduce speed for congested traffic and hit a Buick which then sent the Ford into the back of a Sterling flatbed truck.

Dipaula was flown to Shock Trauma where he later died of his injuries.

It was unknown what caused the original traffic congestion.

I-795 was closed for about 3 hours for the investigation.
