REISTERSTOWN, Md. - One person was killed and a second was injured in one of two wrong-way crashes on Interstate 795 Friday morning.
At around 2:50 a.m. troopers from the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack received several 911 calls with reports of a blue Toyota Corolla traveling the wrong way in the fast lane on northbound I-795 in Reisterstown.
Troopers were sent out to investigate the complaints. About five minutes later, the troopers encountered a crash involving the Toyota described in the 911 calls and a 1989 Volvo 740. The crash was on northbound I-795 near Owings Mills Boulevard.
The driver of the Toyota, 33-year-old Davis Earl Patterson of Reisterstown, was taken to Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver of the Volvo, 28-year-old Mary Christine Medicus of Westminster, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she remains in serious condition.
Police say this was the second report of a wrong-way crash Friday morning. The first one happened just a little earlier. The crash involved just one vehicle. The female driver was charged with driving under the influence.
