BALTIMORE (WMAR) - The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modifications in effect due to the major water main break in the downtown area.

Monday afternoon a main broke along Light Street near the intersection of Lombard Street.

How to avoid the water main break construction

Light Street is closed between Redwood Street & Lombard Street. Your best alternate routes are Hopkins Place and Fayette Street. Motorists are also strongly encouraged to use public transportation.

Motorists should expect significant delays and are encouraged to plan ahead by allowing additional travel time, adjusting commute times and taking alternate routes.

Commuters heading west should consider using Franklin Street and those heading south should use Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
