ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -

A special workgroup in the House of Delegates has been formed to study the regional strengths and opportunities in the Baltimore region.

House Speaker Michael Busch, D-Anne Arundel, made the announcement on Friday.

The speaker says the state needs to better leverage the strengths of the region to increase investment and job creation. He says that includes tapping the resources of the Port of Baltimore, Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

The workgroup plans to review existing state programs. They include community revitalization, education and transportation strategies to find ways to make better a stronger partnership between state and local governments.
