BALTIMORE, Md. - The Baltimore City Department of Public Works is reporting that two sanitary sewer overflows occurred today.

The two overflows occurred in the 400 block of E. Eager Street and in the 1800 block of Falls Road, both took place just after 8:30 a.m. and are still ongoing at this time.

The overflow spillage is estimated at 500 gallons per minute.

Potential overflows were anticipated at these locations and the areas have been monitored since the beginning of this storm.

These overflows are caused by an infiltration of rain water into the sanitary lines. The overflows discharged into the Jones Falls.

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified.

For more information about health concerns as a result of the overflows, contact the Health Department at 410-396-4422.

The Department of Public Works is undertaking a $1 billion rehabilitation of the City’s sanitary system which will protect our urban streams and the Chesapeake Bay while preventing future sewer overflows.
