BALITMORE - A Baltimore journalism staple has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

WBAL is reporting that Ron Smith, the host who became known to many, died Monday night from the cancer he has been fighting for several months.

Ron just turned 70 on December 2.

WBAL says Ron died at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

Ron has been on Baltimore radio and television since 1973.

In November, Ron announced that he would no longer fight the cancer saying that his "life will end sometime in an undetermined number of weeks in home hospice care."
