BALTIMORE - Officials are warning Baltimore commuters that the rapidly growing Horseshoe Casino building will begin negatively affecting traffic from Interstate 95 to Russell Street for Baltimore Gas and Electric updates.
Upgrades are expected to start Tuesday Oct. 15.
One lane both north and southbound will be closed starting Monday night. Crews started closing roads Monday afternoon.
The city Department of Transportation confirms the upgrades are essential for adding the casino to the city’s grid.
Officials are urging drivers to consider alternative routes. The project is expected to be completed by July 2014.
Department of Transportation officials say backups will stretch from the Interstate 95 ramp as drivers will be forced to make a complete stop before merging onto Russell Street. Suggested alternative routes include Interstate 395, Key Highway, or MLK Boulevard.
