BALTIMORE - The Maryland Transit Administration is urging people planning to head to the Inner Harbor for the Fourth of July fireworks display to use public transportation to get there.

Thousands are expected to attend the fireworks and will end up flooding the downtown area causing a huge traffic headache for all involved.

For the weekend and the holiday on Monday, MTA will be running the following bus, train, subway, and light rail schedules:

  • Local bus - Sunday/Holiday schedule
  • Metro Subway - Sunday/Holiday schedule (6am to midnight) - The Charles Center East will stay open until midnight and Lexington Market East will be closing at the normal time of 8 p.m.
  • Light rail - Sunday/Holiday schedule - Light rail will have a Sunday/Holiday schedule with trains running from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. because of the added holiday traffic.
  • MARC train - No service
  • Commuter bus - No service, but the # 201 commuter bus will run on July 4th
  • Mobility - The Certification Office will be closed

If you have questions about any of the MTA services for the holiday weekend, you can find information at the MTA website at www.mta.maryland.gov.
