Mayor urges residents to prepare for another round

BALTIMORE - Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake urged Baltimore residents to prepare for another round of severe weather Saturday night with the possibility of more power outages. She also reminded residents to use 911 only for police, fire and medical emergencies.

Baltimore Gas & Electric is reporting more than 90,000 customers without power in Baltimore City. BGE Customers should report power outages by calling 877-778-2222. If you see downed power lines, leave the area immediately and call BGE at 800-685-0123.

Police, Fire, and EMS resources are visibly deployed across the City and are ready to respond to any emergency incident.   More than 350 downed trees in city roadways have been reported. City Crews are working to clear downed trees and debris and are restoring traffic signals as quickly as possible.

Drivers should exercise extreme caution, especially at night. Residents are encouraged to contact 311 from 6 am-10pm to report downed trees in roadways.  "It is important that citizens check on elderly friends and neighbors throughout the afternoon and evening, especially those without power," Mayor Rawlings-Blake said. "Unfortunately, BGE has experienced historic outages across the Baltimore region and residents should expect and prepare for prolonged power outages."  

Baltimore City  remains in Code Red Heat Alert status through Sunday July 1st and has opened several additional emergency cooling centers, with cool air and free water available until 7 p.m. tonight.
