BALTIMORE - The Ravens have confirmed that Matt Birk is retiring from the NFL.

Birk has announced that he is going to build "The Larry Bryant Reading Oasis" at Battle Grove Elementary in Dundalk.

According to the Ravens official Twitter account Birk said "I've enjoyed playing football. But as much as playing football I've enjored doing this (community service with kids.)"

The Ravens also posted that when asked by a student why he was retiring, Birk said "I'm old. I've got six kids. ... It's time to do something else."
