BALTIMORE(WMAR) -

A 44-year-old man will spend the next 40 years in prison after he was convicted of killing a woman after she asked him to move out of her home.

Darryl Cloud pled guilty and received a sentence of life with all but 40 years suspended.

On the evening of July 9, 2011, the victim's two daughters, one of the 6, the other 10-years-old, saw Cloud hit their mother after she asked him to move out of their home on Belnord Avenue.

When the children woke up the next day, they found their mother unresponsive on the bedRoom floor, a rag covering her head, a flashlight sticking out of her anus and blood spattered all over the walls.

The girls ran to a neighbors house for help and then led police to their mother. She was declared dead on the scene. She died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Bloody clothing found in the alley by the victim's house was consistent with what the defendant was seen wearing in the early morning hours of July 10, 2011. DNA from Cloud and the victim were found on the garments.

After initially denying involvement, Cloud later confessed, saying he smashed her head because he was jealous and upset with the victim. Cloud pled guilty to first degree murder.

His jail term is also to be followed by 5-years of supervised probation.
