BALTIMORE, Md. - Residents in Canton who want to borrow a library book will have to travel a little bit further for the next two years.
The Enoch Pratt Free Library's Canton Branch will close Monday for the start of a two year renovation project.
The renovations at the 126 year old library will update the Library's oldest branch with a new meeting room, circulation desk and furniture. It will also include more computers and have wheel chair accessibility when it is complete.
"The Canton Branch is definitely one of Baltimore's gems," said Carla D. Hayden, Chief Executive Officer of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, in a press release. "For generations, families have enjoyed this library for story time, neighborhood events and now depend on it for free computer use. The renovations will preserve the Canton Branch and will ensure that it lasts another 125 years for generations of East Baltimoreans to enjoy."
While the library is closed for renovations, readers can stop by other close library locations. Either the Southeast Anchor Library on Eastern Avenue, or the Patterson Park Branch on North Linwood.
