ABC2 News brought you the story several months ago . Health officials call it a growing danger.
We’re talking about distracted walking.
Johns Hopkins University recently introduced a new program to create awareness. Signs of the problem are popping up everywhere, literally.
The message is clear: “Don’t be a crash text dummy” and "Do the math."
More than 1,100 people in the Baltimore area were treated in the emergency room in 2011 for mishaps that spawned from distracted walking.
In other parts of the country, like New York City, lawmakers have attempted to outlaw texting while walking.
As a part of our investigation in the spring , we spoke to Dr. Keisha Pollack with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Pollack sits on Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s transportation safety task force.
Pollack told ABC2 Wednesday that texting while walking is an issue the group has discussed.
