JHU professor dies after being found in water

BALTIMORE - A woman who died after being pulled from the water off a pier in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore has been identified as a Johns Hopkins University neurology professor.

Police say 53-year-old Dr. Elizabeth O'Hearn was pulled from the water near the 2300 block of Boston St. on Thursday. Police say they were called to the area around 4:45 a.m. after a witness reported a woman floating face down in the water. O'Hearn, who lived near where she was found, later died.

A Baltimore police spokesman says the cause of death is under investigation.

A spokeswoman for the university confirmed Saturday that O'Hearn was an assistant professor of neurology and neuroscience in The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
