BALTIMORE - A fire killed 3 adults and 3 children in East Baltimore this morning.
Firefighters arrived on the scene in the 2300 block of Homewood Avenue shortly before 5 AM Tuesday and found two two-story houses on fire. Fire department officials tell ABC2 News firefighters immediately entered the buildings to fight the fire, but because of strong winds fueling the flames, they were forced to evacuate and fight the fire from the outside.
The fire did spread because of the winds to a total of four rowhomes.
Once firefighters were able to put the 2-alarm fire out, they reentered the buildings and that's when they found five people dead inside one of the homes. An additional fatality has now been reported.
Fire investigators and police arson detectives are on the scene to try and determine what caused the deadly fire.
Tuesday morning's fire happened just a few blocks from one of the deadliest house fires in Baltimore City history.
Six people, including three children, where killed in an early morning fire on Cecil Avenue in May of 2007.
