Former principal charged in school theft

State Prosecutor Emmet C. Davitt announced today that a Baltimore City Grand Jury has charged former Coppin Academy Principal William Howard II for theft. 

 

Howard has been charged with four counts of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft. 

 

Howard, 37, is presently employed as Assistant Vice Principal for Academic Services at Saint Mary's College of Maryland. 

 

It is alleged that between April 25, 2011 and November 30, 2011, Howard made four unauthorized transfers from the Coppin Academy Student Activity Fund bank account into his personal accounts. In all Howard transferred $10,300.  Howard hasn't worked for Coppin since 2008. 

 

The case was referred to the Office of the State Prosecutor by the Baltimore City School system. 

 

In a statement, Prosecutor Davitt says "stealing from a student activity fund set up for the students of Coppin Academy is a reprehensible offense and simply cannot be tolerated."
