BALTIMIORE (WMAR) -

Baltimore City Officials have issued the first Code Blue weather alert for Tuesday, January 22 until Sunday, January 27.

Due to the extended drop in temperatures and high winds in the forecast, there is a potential danger to health.

As a result of the Code Blue declaration, emergency shelters will keep extended hours and emergency workers will conduct outreach for vulnerable residents.

Residents without heat are reminded of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning from using generators in enclosed spaces or burns caused by alternate heating sources. Energy assistance may be available for those who need it, for more on energy assistance you can contact the Office of Home Energy at 410-396-5555.
