Coppin State University president to step down

BALTIMORE (AP) -
The president of Coppin State University in Baltimore is stepping down after leading the university for four years.
President Reginald S. Avery said Wednesday that he will leave in January. Avery received a vote of no confidence from faculty and staff in February. They cited faculty turnover and poor budget management. Avery said Wednesday it was time for him to "step aside to allow for continued institutional growth."
Coppin State is one of Maryland's four historically black colleges. The others are Bowie State University, Morgan State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
