BCCC names interim president

The board of trustees of Baltimore City Community College has announced the appointment of Dr. Carolyn Hull Anderson as the interim president.

Having most recently served as an associate professor at her alma mater, Morgan State University, Dr. Anderson has also held the positions of executive vice president and acting president at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, and as dean of academic services at Broome Community College in Binghamton, N.Y.

Dr. Anderson began her career at BCCC as a full-time faculty member, attaining the rank of full professor. During her tenure she rose to the positions of assistant to the associate dean of arts and science; chair of English, Speech, Foreign Languages, Art and Music; and director of the academic development program.

The appointment of Dr. Anderson to the interim position comes after the the board announced in December Dr. Carolane Williams would no longer be working for the school. In a press release it was shared that Dr. Peggy Bradford would serve as the interim president.

A press release issued on Anderson's selection Friday did not explain what may have happened with the board's initial choice for interim leader.

“The Board is pleased to appoint as interim president someone who knows the College so well and has already demonstrated remarkable dedication through years of service to BCCC students,” stated Dr. Rosemary Gillett-Karam, Board of Trustees chair.

Dr. Anderson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morgan State University; a Master of Science and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from the Johns Hopkins University; and a doctorate in adult and community college education from North Carolina State University at Raleigh.

“I am grateful to the Board of Trustees for their faith in my ability to work with faculty, staff and students to move the College forward,” stated Dr. Anderson.
