Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd Parade -  January 19, 2 p.m.

Join the 13 ^th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade that features high school and community marching bands, decorative floats, civic organizations, high-stepping fraternizes, cheerleaders, and more.

The event will run from noon to 2 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

MLK Jr. Weekend Celebration -  January 20, noon - 5 p.m.

Celebrate the role of civil rights movement in the United States at the  MLK Jr. Weekend Celebration with the Baltimore City College Choir, a motivational talk with Radio One/WOLB-AM radio personality Marshall C. Bell and more.

I have a Dream Weekend Celebration January 19 - January 21, 2013

Port Discovery has made history more kid-friendly at their “I Have a Dream Weekend Celebration.” Families can meet Negro League Baseball players, make their own birthday cakes, watch a Baltimore African American Quilters construction project, and help celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.

American Visionary Art Museum MLK, Jr. Day event - January 21, 2013

The American Visionary Art Museum ’s free Martin Luther King, Jr. day celebration will include guided tours, a birthday cake for Martin Luther King, Jr., workshops and an interactive Dance and Drum performance by the Keur Khalyl African Dance Company at 3 p.m.

Night of Elegance event - January 21

After a fun day full of inauguration or Martin Luther King, Jr events you can join the many visitors who’ve come to town for a night of fine dining.  “An Evening of Elegance for the state of Michigan” is taking place at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Meyers Maritime Park Museum.  Entrance is $100 and include dinner.  Call 410-728-3837 to make reservations.

National Great Blacks in Wax Museum

Baltimore’s National Great Blacks in Wax Museum is the first wax museum focused solely on African American history in American. Visit the museum to see lifelike figurines of Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy L. Heights., W.E.B. DuBois, Harriet Tubman, General Colin Powell, Nora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Malcolm X, and more.

Negro Leagues: A Baseball Legacy exhibit

Wishing for some baseball during the winter months?  Check out the Sports Legends Museum ’s Negro Leagues exhibit.  The stories of these players not only tell their stories, but how they impacted Major League Baseball as well. Exhibits are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Revealing the African Presence in Renaissance Europe 

This Waters Art Museum exhibit looks at the role that Africans played in Renaissance Europe. It features 75 works of art from the Walters, major museums in the U.S. and Europe.

 

The exhibit is open until January 21, 2013, Waters Art Museum.
