Baltimore creates new zones for food truck vendors

BALTIMORE - Baltimore has created a pilot program that creates zones where food truck owners may operate.
The city's transportation department will put up signs that will designate reserved parking spaces for food trucks. Trucks must have proper vendor permits displayed in windows and must clearly be identified as a food truck. Vendors also will be allowed to operate elsewhere in the city based on existing state and city regulations.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said in a news release on Wednesday that the city's food trucks are a "unique extension of our diverse local restaurant industry" and the city's efforts will help existing operators to thrive and encourage new food vendors to start.
The city will assess the pilot program at the end of the year.
