BALTIMORE - The Baltimore City Board of Estimates has approved a raise for Baltimore Fire Chief James S. Clack.

Clack will receive incremental salary increases each January through 2018. He'll also get a raise in January from $161,262 to $164,487.

Since his appointment in May 2008, Clack has implemented the Operation Care Program and added a new Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, according to the Mayor's office.

There was also a 44 percent reduction in fire-related deaths, and a 50 percent savings in overtime costs in Fiscal Year 2009, according to the Mayor's office.

The raise request comes as Blake faces criticism over the closure of three fire companies because of a lack of funds.
