BALTIMORE (AP) - Public works officials in Baltimore are accepting mittens, caps, gloves and scarves as part of the 39th annual Mitten Tree collection.

The event takes place Thursday at the Abel Wolman Municipal Building.

The city is encouraging employees and residents to decorate the tree with winter clothing. The clothes will be donated to the needy through the Salvation Army's Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club.
