EDGEWATER, Md. (WMAR) -

A 51-year-old woman is recovering after she was hit by a truck Wednesday night.

Police responded to the intersection of East Central Avenue and West Shore Road at about 6:20 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian crash.

Once on the scene, they found Susan Blachard Harris that had just been hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck. She was taken to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the truck was traveling east on Central Avenue when Harris ran into the roadway from the right and struck the side of the vehicle.

The truck's side mirror hit Harris in the head.

Police say that pedestrian error is the primary cause of the incident, and there is no indication that alcohol or speed were factors.

The secondary circumstances leading to Harris' behavior before the incident, including possible medical issues, remains under investigation.
