ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The trial of Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold has been postponed.
Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Paul Hackner postponed the trial on Thursday at the request of Leopold's attorney, Bruce Marcus. The trial had been scheduled to begin Sept. 4.
Marcus cited the large volume of information gathered in the case by prosecutors and the complexity of the case as reasons for needing more time to prepare.
Leopold was indicted in March for allegedly misusing his police detail for personal and political gain.
In court papers filed Thursday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, the court deferred rescheduling to retired Judge Dennis Sweeney, who is hearing the case.
