SEVERN, Md. - A 4-year-old playing with a lighter caused a house fire Wednesday in Severn, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Fire officials said just before 3:30 p.m. crews reported to a dwelling fire in the 1800 block of Sea Pine Circle. The first on the scene initially found nothing at the three-story townhouse. Soon after, personnel found a bedroom fire on the third floor that had been contained by the home's sprinkler system.
In all, it took 24 firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the incident under control. The home suffered approximately $20,000 in damage. There were working smoking detectors in the home, which alerted the residents. Three adults and two children were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
